Maria Mayan

Maria Mayan is a Professor in the Faculty of Extension and an Assistant Director of the Community-University Partnership. She is an engaged scholar who situates her work at the intersection of government, not-for-profit, disadvantaged, and clinician communities. She grounds her work in the policy environment and focuses on how we can work together on complex health and social issues. Her work focuses on the causes of marginalization and how to mobilize against systems of inequity, using primarily qualitative and community-engaged research in rigorous and creative ways.
As a qualitative methodologist, she has studied, written about, and conducted qualitative research since the early 1990s. She spent over ten years at the International Institute for Qualitative Methodology learning and teaching qualitative inquiry locally and internationally. She has been invited to teach qualitative inquiry by government, not-for-profits, the private sector, and the academic community worldwide. Her qualitative expertise has culminated into a book, Essentials of Qualitative Inquiry; the second edition is currently being prepared and will be published by Routledge.
She joined the Community-University Partnership for the Study of Children, Youth, and Families (CUP) as assistant director of Women’s and Children’s Health with the mandate of building community- and patient-engaged research, qualitative research, and knowledge translation capacity for health researchers for the Women and Children’s Health Research Institute.
One of her most valued activities is joining with colleagues and graduate students to use both conventional and unconventional qualitative and community-based methods to explore intriguing and pressing health research issues.
Her current research program is embedded in End Poverty Edmonton.
Aslak Steinsbekk
NTYY Norwegian University of Science and Technology
Aslak Steinsbekk is a professor in behavioral sciences in medicine and health service research at the Department of Public Health and General Practice, Norwegian University of Science and Technology. He is leader for the research group for health service research and he has built up a research group in patient education and user involvement.
His main research activities at current centers around health service research with a focus on the patient perspective and how patients experience the complete package of services they use. Aslak has mainly published in the areas of health care utilization, communication, patient education, patient participation and complementary and alternative medicine, and have been PI for studies using different methodologies (randomized controlled trials, qualitative methods, epidemiology, and systematic review).
Aslak has broad educational experience. He has initiated and headed a joint educational activity where more than 700 students from 9 professional educations participate (TverrSam). He has also been in charge of coordinating a semester at the medical programme which includes practice placement in primary care and headed the examination commission. He has developed educational modules at master’s and PhD levels.
Furthermore, he has initiated and headed several processes where a range of partners from different organisations have cooperated in applications and in setting up centres / networks. He thus has a broad experience from research, education and collaborative processes
Ana M. Carriazo
Regional Ministry of Health of Andalusia
Ana Maria Carriazo is currently Head of the Unit for external action at the Regional Ministry of Health of Andalusia. She has been in charge of the same responsibility at the former Regional Ministry of Equality, Health and Social Policies since April 2012 and in the field of health since June 2008. She has been the Scientific Coordinator for the PALANTE project (funded by the EC CIP programme). Previously, she joined the Cabinet of the Regional Minister of Health of Andalusia, in March 2007. Before, she had worked at the Andalusian Health Service for more than 19 years, with different responsibilities (health information systems, healthcare basket of services among others).
She got her degree in Medicine and her PhD in Public Health at the University of Seville (1986 and 1997). She also holds a Degree in Statistics of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (2001). She is specialist in Preventive Medicine and Public Health (2003).
She has collaborated at the Department of Preventive Medicine /Social and Health Sciences, of the University of Seville, and has published both at the national and international level.
Jessica Greene

Jessica Greene evaluates health reform-related policies and strategies intended to improve the quality of health care, including financial incentives, public reporting of provider quality, and consumer engagement. She has published widely in top health policy and primary care journals including Health Affairs, the Milbank Quarterly, and the Annals of Family Medicine. She currently serves as a Deputy Editor for the Journal of General Internal Medicine. Prior to joining the Baruch faculty in 2016, she was a faculty member at George Washington University and the University of Oregon. At Baruch, Dr. Greene teaches classes in statistics and health policy.
She earned her doctorate in Public Administration at New York University and master's degrees in Public Health and International Affairs at Columbia University.
